My digital "dummy"..
A collection of sights, sounds, shapes, fonts (better said: anything visual or auditory) that intrigue me in my design process..

Latte art- a perfect example of how pretty much everything we consume is designed. This was something that I did not pay too much attention too. After watching a “Everything is designed” episode on food design it made me realize that we live in a world where everything that is around us is designed with a certain goal in mind.
Usually these goals are pretty clear, but how about digital media? I had to check websites for another design course (HTML & CSS) and looked at it through a MEDMEC pair of glasses (if you will). Sadly most of these websites did have a goal but their design worked counter intuitive. This made me think: How do I translate a goal into a functional design? In this day and age designs will be put into question and need to be constantly improved. This inspires me but frustrates me as well (since this is already a competitive market and it keeps becoming competitive and professional on a daily basis)

Wooden Sign Vintage New York HOME $40

I personally dislike posters or picture frames on my walls, they always tend to be square and something about that is off-putting to me. Last month I came across this sign and it was finally some expectable wall-art I could be inspired by.
This prompted me to ask my neighbor (a craft’s student at Willem de Koning) to help me make such a sign since my study area is empty (expect for my desk). Hopefully this will inspire me to keep looking out for new idea’s that might appeal to me even though I might be skeptical on it.

STEAMPUG by Doggleheim (on Etsy)
I found out this print is actually for sale! It’s even on a shirt!

Humor is an important aspect that I cannot always seem to master, we’ve all tried to make funny images/sketches in the past. But I can never seem to make these kinds of word jokes/puns (or at least think them up entirely of my own)
If there is one thing I would like to learn then it should be how to make comedic designs and not just things that I think look pretty.

The “pokemon center” from the pokemon game series through the various years.

I’ve tried to blog this before sadly it wouldn’t post.

I like this image cause it shows how a design can change throughout the years but still remain somewhat similar. I personally hate it when someone takes a design and changes it beyond the point of recognition. But as long as the edits are clear and stay true to the original design I can usually live with it.

Why does this inspire me? Simple, team work requires sacrifices in design since a consensus has to me reached (since design aesthetics aren’t always equal). So for me this is an example of expectable changes in a design.

“poke kombat.” shirts and stickers now available.

An image I used for inspiration in my design class, we where required to remake a game-logo by using another font. This particular image makes a play on “Mortal Combat” and uses the Pokemon font. Both very recognizable for my generation.
The image inspired me to grab know elements for my design so it would come off more strong and make it clear that I changed my own game-logo as a funny “mashup”.

We wouldn’t be the designers we are if it wasn’t for this man.

A child within a child within a child within a child…

Animated image from one of my favorite shows.. Like the direct message the image portrays and the comedical aspect that animated images can bring to live. Makes me want to use animation more vs. static images.

With small tweeks a design can have a totally different meaning.. How can I use this in my own designs? I like the image since it makes it clear how important context is, in my designs I should strive for perfection since minor details might change the outcome

Clean and classic packaging for Saxton Ciders.

Color use translates to a organic, high end product. Another example of Design aesthetic and the functions/message delivered through the use of colors. The image made it clear for me how color theories work in real life, I couldn’t fully grasp the concept without a visual aid.

Bunch of Crock series by Safwat Saleem. A bunch of posters designed to mock early American society by the use of stereotypes. Like that despite the simplicity it still catches attention.

Another example of contrasts I got in Design class, due to the shades of blue used in this artwork. Actually multiple contrast theories within one artwork combined. Another visual example I needed for me to understand a theory..

Simplification of reality, almost pictogram-like. Inspired me to think of other important/recognizable and historic figures that could be transformed into a simplified version or even a pictogram.
